WhatsApp screen share: Step-by-step process to use the feature on Android, iOS, desktop

WhatsApp screen share

WhatsApp screen share – WhatsApp, the widely-used instant messaging service under Meta’s ownership, has recently rolled out a new screen-sharing feature during video calls. This feature, introduced in 2023, is now accessible on Android, iPhone, and Windows desktop apps.

The screen-sharing function allows participants in a video call to view the user’s phone screen, offering advantages in collaborative and educational scenarios. It’s important to exercise caution, as shared information, including usernames and passwords, becomes visible to the call participants.

WhatsApp assures users that the screen-sharing process is safeguarded with end-to-end encryption and remains unrecorded by the platform. Even WhatsApp itself cannot observe or capture the shared content during a call.

Here’s a Step-by-Step Guide to Utilizing WhatsApp’s Screen Share Feature:

Mobile App (Android & iOS):

  1. Open WhatsApp and initiate a video call.
  2. Tap the screen-sharing icon at the bottom of the display.
  3. Confirm your intention to share your screen.
  4. Your screen becomes visible to other participants.
  5. To cease screen sharing, return to WhatsApp and tap “Stop Sharing.”

Windows Desktop App:

  1. Open the WhatsApp desktop app and initiate a video call.
  2. Click the “Share” icon in the call window.
  3. Choose to share the entire screen or a specific app.
  4. To stop screen sharing, return to WhatsApp and click “Stop screen sharing.”

It’s noteworthy that when sharing the entire screen, any opened app becomes visible to call participants. Opting to share only a specific app limits visibility to that particular application.
