Volkswagen is allegedly increasing its investments in India to build electric cars (EVs). The German firm is also looking to expand its capacity in the nation. Volkswagen is planning to deliver its first electric vehicle, the ID.4, in 2024.

The ID.4 would be constructed at Volkswagen’s manufacturing site in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad using imported parts and components.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars, India brand director Ashish Gupta stated that the business intends to localize as much as possible in order to function sustainably in the sector, without disclosing the amount of investment. He stated that they must begin preparing for a mass electric vehicle somewhere between 2026 and 2027.

According to the survey, 46 electric cars are set to be launched in the Indian market during the next three to four years. According to Gupta, the category is rising quicker than predicted. However, the ecosystem is not prepared since electrification is expected to occur in stages.

According to Gupta, the supply base is not ready, and the battery can account for up to 50% of the cost of an electric vehicle.
