The Body Shop to launch sustainability-focused workshop stores in 2022

The Body Shop – The necessity for sustainability is urgent. The recent occurrences of heatwaves have underlined the reality that climate change is occurring, and that we need to take drastic measures to keep global temperatures from rising.

In the fight against climate change, waste management is extremely important. Environmentalists and nature conservationists are fond of the phrase Reduce – Reuse – Recycle. Given that corporations all over the world are significant proponents of consumerism, which leads to massive amounts of garbage generation, there has been a lot of pressure on corporations to accept responsibility for their role in waste buildup. Companies all over the world have risen to the challenge and vowed to adopt waste management action. Body Shop has made a bold move to join the bandwagon.

The Body Shop, a high-end cosmetics firm, has transformed its flagship store in Mumbai‘s Palladium Mall into a one-of-a-kind activist workshop focusing on sustainability, with recycled and sustainable materials used for not only products but also store fixtures.

The firm plans to create 20 more activist workshops across the country in the coming months, with the goal of eventually converting all of its facilities into activist workshops. The British firm has recently stepped up its global environmental efforts, opening similar venues in London and Singapore.

It’s the brand’s new global identity, where we’re bringing purpose-driven ideology to life, and as a result, we’ve opened a store that talks sustainability on every level,” said Vishal Chaturvedi, Vice President, The Body Shop India.

“We will expand into new markets, such as Varanasi and Imphal, and open stores with the same concept,” he said, adding that “when we step up our efforts toward sustainability, all of our stores will be revamped.”

The company expects to establish 12 new stores in tier II and III cities this year, according to Chaturvedi, with the remaining stores being expanded to existing locations.

Clean beauty firms have lately sprung up in the beauty and personal care market, offering organic items to consumers while also portraying themselves as socially responsible brands. Mamaearth, a new-age direct-to-consumer company, conducts advertising campaigns to promote its tree-planting initiative. Plum Goodness is a trendy beauty brand that claims to be cruelty-free, vegan, and non-toxic.

The Body Shop, which was formerly a vegetarian business, is set to become a vegan one in the near future. All of The Body Shop’s product lines now use 75% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR), including CFT plastic from India, according to the company. The brand’s most environmentally friendly haircare was released in 2021: all bottles and tubs are 100% recyclable and made of 100% recycled plastic.
