Signature spearheads the replenishment of Mangrove plantations in Odisha

Signature – Replenishment of Mangrove plantations

Mangrove plantations – Michael Jackson asked in 1995, “What about the seas?” “And what about us?” It’s been nearly three decades. While we may not have all of the answers, we can live in hope because of the momentum of collective action. The vow to live well and do well.

Signature Packaged Drinking Water is pleased to launch The Mangrove Replenishment Project, an endeavor to rejuvenate mangrove plantations in Odisha and restore the fragile ecological balance of coastal regions in preparation for climate resistance. Because of storms and erosion, the mangrove cover that protects Odisha’s coasts has declined dramatically in recent years, making it an essential geography to focus on, which is why it is worth noting.

Signature has always been passionate about the need of giving back to the environment via all of our efforts. As a brand, we are making purposeful efforts to raise awareness about the need of recovering nature. Signature Packaged Drinking Water launched the Mangrove Replenishment Project, which coincides with our brand’s future-back goal of weaving growth with purpose.

Cyclones impact Orissa due to climate fluctuations and its particular geography. The quantity of mangroves along this coastline stretch has steadily declined over the years owing to a variety of factors. Mangrove regeneration is essential since a community’s livelihood is dependent on the sea and its surrounding ecosystem. Mangroves all along the Odisha coast are under threat as a result of high human density and competing need for land.

The initiative will not only help to restore the mangroves, but it will also engage local people by teaching them and including them in the process. In the beginning, restoration efforts will be spread across 61 acres in 5 villages near Puri, Odisha, over a three-year period.

“The Mangrove Replenishment Project has been launched to build coastal climate resilience in Odisha,” said Ruchira Jaitly, Executive Vice President and Portfolio Head, Marketing, Diageo India. Signature Packaged Drinking Water believes in living well while helping others. We aim to provide our customers the opportunity to enjoy life every day, wherever, while also being involved with actions that are creating a’sea change’ on the ground, for local people, for flora and fauna, and for the environment.

Did you know that?

– A hectare of mangroves may store up to 8 tonnes of CO2 per year, which is 2-4 times quicker than a mature tropical forest. Cyclonic storms are kept at bay by mangroves.

– In the previous 50 years, we have lost half of the world’s mangrove cover.

– Mangroves account for 0.7% of global forest area yet have the potential to store 20 billion tonnes of carbon globally, almost equivalent to 2.5 times current annual global greenhouse gas emissions.
