Sightsavers India Program Invites Applications for Ophthalmologists

Sightsavers India, a renowned organization devoted to eliminating avoidable blindness and promoting equality for people with disabilities, has announced that applications for their coveted India Fellowship Program are now available.

Cataracts and refractive errors continue to be a serious public health problem in India, particularly in rural regions where a lack of qualified eye care providers leads in delayed diagnosis and treatment. To address this issue, Sightsavers India has created a one-of-a-kind 24-month fellowship program for bright and dedicated young ophthalmologists to get training at some of India’s premier eye health facilities and then use their skills and expertise in real-world circumstances.

The initiative recruits bright young ophthalmologists from India and trains them in an innovative course to broaden their perspectives on rural eye health. Fellows go through a planned skill upgrading and mentorship process that covers clinical and surgical ophthalmology, as well as management and holistic life skills, over the course of 24 months. Every level of the fellowship program optimizes learning, assisting fellows in becoming well-rounded seasoned professionals.

The Sightsavers India Fellowship Program provides a one-of-a-kind chance to be trained at renowned eye health institutes in New Delhi, Noida, and Kolkata by experienced specialists. The program offers interesting district postings, one-on-one clinical-surgical mentorship, involvement in community-based surveys, and self-transformation mentoring. Fellows will also get an outstanding stipend, a living facility, and international exposure.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a postgraduate or diploma holder in ophthalmology (MS/DNB/DO) from any recognized institute/university in India, with solid clinical ophthalmology expertise. High learning orientation, flexibility, professional ethics, and emotional resilience are desired characteristics.

The deadline for applications is June 30th, 2023. Fellows will be notified by email by July 2023, with the Fellowship beginning in August 2023.

“The India Fellowship Program is an exceptional opportunity for promising ophthalmologists to enhance their skills and knowledge, work on real-world scenarios, and transform into all-rounded seasoned professionals,” stated RN Mohanty, CEO of Sightsavers India, in response to the news. We are thrilled to accept submissions from outstanding individuals who share our commitment to eliminating preventable blindness and promoting equitable opportunity for people with disabilities.”
