In partnership with SSM Foundation, Sightsavers India and Cholamandalam opened the Raahi Vision Centre in Kalamassery, Kochi. The center offers free eye exams and eyeglasses to truck drivers and other members of the trucking industry in an effort to promote road safety. In Kerala, it is the first of its sort, and it is a component of Sightsavers India’s national initiative to promote eye health and driving safety.

In the presence of esteemed dignitaries like Mr. Girish M. (RCM, Cholamandalam), Mr. Venugopal C. Govind (Trustee SSM Eye Research Foundation), Dr. A. Giridhar (Managing Trustee SSM Eye Research), and Mr. Prasanna Kumar, Raahi Vision Center, funded by Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Limited, was inaugurated (Director-Programs Operations, Sightsavers).

Our commitment to promoting traffic safety and helping the trucking industry aligns with our support of the Raahi Vision Centre. We are pleased to support Sightsavers India and the SSM Eye Research Foundation in their efforts to raise awareness of road safety among Kerala’s truck drivers and support workers. At Cholamandalam, we support spending money on projects that benefit the communities we work with. We are dedicated to advancing traffic safety and enhancing the general wellbeing of those who support our economy. We anticipate that this initiative will serve as a model for others to follow and help make India a safer and healthier place. said Mr. Girish M, RCM, Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Limited.

The Raahi Vision Center will undertake screening programs and awareness campaigns for truck drivers and related personnel, offering free eyewear following the screening. The center will also plan screening events on Saturdays at industries and hubs for truck drivers. The program coordinator can set up screenings at factories and truck drivers’ associations’ campuses.

Sightsavers‘ Director of Programs and Operations, Prasanna Kumar, said, “It gives us great pleasure to work with Cholamandalam and SSM Eye Research Foundation to launch the Raahi Vision Centre in Kerala, which will provide this crucial service to the trucking industry. Sightsavers India’s objective is to end preventable blindness, and this campaign perfectly reflects that mission by ensuring that truck drivers and other allied employees have access to vital eye care services, assisting them in maintaining their vision, and improving road safety for all.”

A important step in developing a safer and healthier trucking community and promoting road safety in India is the Raahi Vision Center.
