PSUs under Govt invest in Energy Storage Technologies
In New Delhi: Along with solar PV projects, the public sector enterprises of the government have invested in the commercial scale installation of battery Energy Storage Technologies systems. According to a written response presented in the Rajya Sabha today by Shri R.K. Singh, Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, the Government of India is also funding some storage projects through grants.
These three projects are being implemented by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a CPSE under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Energy Storage Technologies
Kavaratti Island, UT of Lakshadweep, 1.4 MW Solar PV Project with 1.4 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (supported through MNRE Grant)
50 MWp SPV Project at Phyang, Leh, UT of Ladakh with a 20 MW/50 MWh BESS (supported by GoI grant under the PMDP 2015)
100 MW SPV Project in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, includes a 40 MW/120 MWh BESS.
On March 11, 2022, the Ministry of Power published the Bidding Guidelines for the Procurement and Use of Battery Energy Storage Systems as Part of Generation, Transmission, and Distribution Assets, along with Ancillary Services. Grid-scale energy storage projects are currently in the implementation phase.
