OPPO India, a renowned worldwide smart device manufacturer, has announced a collaboration with T-SIG (Telangana Social Impact Group) to promote the UDAAN project, which aims to improve the lives of Odia migrant labourers in Hyderabad’s Sangareddy district. UDAAN’s goal is to empower these people by enhancing their total well-being, which includes their health, nutrition, children’s education, pay, and housing situations. As a sponsor of this initiative, OPPO, in collaboration with T-SIG and Aide et Action (NGO), will improve the lives of around 2500 migrant workers and 400 children living in the Sangareddy district for six months (October 2023 to March 2024).
OPPO and T-SIG will collaborate on multiple levels to ensure the welfare of workers by taking a holistic approach. Surveys will be conducted as part of the project to obtain information on the brick kilns and determine specific workforce requirements. The District Collectorate, Labour Department, Department of Women and Child Welfare, Department of School Education, Department of Primary Health, Department of Civil Supplies, and Sangareddy District Police will collaborate on the UDAAN initiative. They will work collaboratively to ensure that programmes and entitlements are implemented successfully. T-SIG will moderate the entire process under the capable supervision of Mr. Jayesh Ranjan IAS, Principal Secretary, Dept of Industries, Commerce, I&T, TS Govt.

All workers will be registered as part of the project, making them eligible for financial incentives and access to subsidised rice through the Public Distribution System (PDS). More than 400 workers’ children will be enrolled in conventional Odia medium schools, and Child Care Centres will be established in order to eliminate child labour. Health camps and awareness programmes will be held to provide health services, and brick kiln owners will be educated on how to promote better practises, benefiting around 2500 migrant workers, including 1200 female employees. Regular departmental meetings will foster better coordination, and efforts will be made to strengthen health and safety procedures, ultimately enhancing migrant workers’ living and working conditions.
