Hyderabad-based Nirmaan NGO has introduced the WhiteCoats Family Clinic in an effort to alleviate the stark disparity in healthcare accessibility between private and government institutions. This trailblazing project strives to make quality healthcare more inexpensive and accessible to everybody, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
Despite India’s reputation for offering healthcare at significantly lower rates than developed countries, a considerable disparity in the utilization of private versus government healthcare facilities exists. The WhiteCoats Family Clinic, a partnership between Nirmaan and ValueMomentum, is prepared to address this gap by providing primary care and diagnostic services to marginalized populations.
The WhiteCoats Family Clinic has arisen as a beacon of hope for increased healthcare access under the leadership of Mayur Patnala, the founder and CEO of Nirmaan. Recognizing that the lack of primary and specialized healthcare facilities in rural and semi-urban areas is primarily attributable to a paucity of clinicians, this program seeks to address the underlying reasons of this discrepancy.
The first WhiteCoats clinic opened in Thumkunta three years ago, paving the way for its development into other neglected communities. This endeavor was followed by the Tuesday opening of a second clinic in Quthbullapur. The clinic offers a wide range of services, including a cutting-edge diagnostic laboratory, emergency treatment, day-care services, and a fully stocked pharmacy.

While the WhiteCoats Family Clinic’s major concentration is currently on urban clusters, its mission includes engaging additional underserved populations. Future plans include establishing a clinic in the Borabanda slums and opening eight more clinics during the next three years. Fridays are designated as free OPD (Outpatient Department) days, and free treatment is extended to Below Poverty Line (BPL) households, ensuring that even the most vulnerable parts of society have access to necessary medical care.
Furthermore, the Nirmaan team has set out on a mission to eliminate anaemia in communities through multi-specialty health camps. The team plans to empower 100 women with a three-month program targeted at boosting their haemoglobin levels through nutritional support and medicines, with the help of nine specialty specialists.
WhiteCoats Clinic has a tiered price structure and offers heavily subsidized rates for a variety of medical services. Patients can get routine OPD treatments for $100, a complete blood profile (CBP) for $80, a lipid profile for $120, bodily fluid and sperm tests for $200 apiece, and biopsies for $3,500. These low-cost rates demonstrate the initiative’s dedication to making healthcare services available to everybody, particularly those living nearby.
The WhiteCoats Family Clinic offers a big step forward in the direction of inclusion and fair care in a country where healthcare accessibility has frequently been a barrier. With an emphasis on cost, quality, and community engagement, this project has the potential to affect long-term change in healthcare accessible across the country.
