MoHuA & RITES ink MoU as Technical Support Agency

MoHuA – The introduction of Used Water Management (UWM) as a newly financed component for cities with a population of fewer than one lakh people has resulted in a paradigm change in urban sanitation.

In order to accelerate Solid Waste and Used Water Management, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RITES Limited in the presence of Mr. Manoj Joshi, Secretary, MoHUA, Ms. Roopa Mishra, JS, MoHUA, Mr. R K Dayal, Executive Director-Urban Infra, and Mr. Rahul Mithal, CMD, RITES.

RITES’ Technical Support Unit (TSU) will help SBM-U for three years.  Process standardization and engineering design of waste management facilities, such as Material Recovery Facilities and legacy waste, will be areas of involvement under SWM.

RITES will provide technical assistance for standards and specifications in the fields of sewage and fecal sludge management and reuse, engineering design, and wastewater treatment unit process under UWM.

RITES will also help with the model tender document and procurement in the fields of sewage, wastewater management, and solid waste management.

The emphasis on sustainable solid waste management has been intensified under SBM 2.0, with the eventual goal of achieving garbage-free cities.

The MoU between MoHUA and RITES will enable states and ULBs to efficiently implement mission programs that provide universal safe and sustainable sanitation access through secure containment, collection and transportation, treatment, and reuse for improved public health benefit.
