Managing Director of IndiGo is Rahul Bhatia Now

Rahul Bhatia – Managing Director of IndiGo

Managing Director of IndiGo – InterGlobe Aviation Limited’s Board of Directors unanimously agreed to appoint co-founder and promoter Rahul Bhatia as its Managing Director. InterGlobe Aviation Limited operates India’s largest domestic airline, IndiGo.
Rahul Bhatia has been appointed for five years, beginning February 4, 2022, and is not liable to retire by rotation, according to the company. His appointment is subject to the approval of the company’s members.
After a recent spat between promoters Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal, the management has changed. On December 30, the airline summoned an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to change its Articles of Association and abolish prohibitions on the transfer of promoter shares. Gangwal and Bhatia own 74.44 percent of the company’s equity share capital.
Gangwal accused Bhatia of engaging in related-party transactions in May of this year, which sparked the dispute. Gangwal also complained about Bhatia’s control on the board, claiming that it had resulted in governance failings.
After a resolution filed by Gangwal in 2019 to change the company’s Articles of Association was defeated by shareholders, the two promoters went to the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) to settle their differences.
IndiGo was launched in 2006 by Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal as a low-cost airline. Bhatia worked in the hotel industry, whereas Gangwal worked for United Airlines as a top executive.
InterGlobe Enterprises’ Vice Chairman, Rahul Bhatia, is also a director. He graduated from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, with a degree in electrical engineering.
Bhatia was named Ernst & Young’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ in 2011. He was named to Forbes’ Global Game Changers List in 2016.
