LinkedIn just added an ID verification feature for its 100 million Indian users. The verification method is free and utilises a third-party identity verification provider, HyperVerge, employing DigiLocker to validate a user’s government-issued ID.
LinkedIn will only have access to non-sensitive information, and papers stored in the member’s DigiLocker account will be inaccessible.
According to Ashutosh Gupta, the country manager of LinkedIn India, having an ID verification indicates that the individual’s government-issued ID has been confirmed by one of LinkedIn’s verification partners.
When seeking for work prospects, having a verified profile allows individuals to create trust with other users and demonstrate that they are the real deal.
The functionality is available to all eligible members in India who have a valid Aadhaar number and an Indian phone number. The verified status will be displayed on the LinkedIn member’s profile. This voluntary feature aims to increase the security and trustworthiness of the LinkedIn platform in India.
