PM congratulates Konkan Railway to accomplish Mission 100% Electrification

Konkan Railway – New Delhi: Under the ‘Quest 100 percent Electrification – Moving towards net Zero Carbon Emission’ strategy, Indian Railways is on a mission to electrify its entire Broad Gauge network in order to provide an environmentally friendly, green, and clean form of transportation to its people.

In light of the foregoing, under the able leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the guidance of the Hon’ble Minister of Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Minister of State in the Ministry of Railways Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve, and Hon’ble Minister of State in the Ministry of Railways Smt. Darshana Jardosh, one of India’s largest stretches of railway electrification, the Konkan Railway has been.

Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, commended the Konkan Railway team on the astounding success of ‘Mission 100 percent Electrification’ and for setting new sustainable development milestones.

The foundation stone for the electrification of the entire 741-kilometer route work was set in November 2015. The CRS inspection of the entire Konkan Railway route was successfully completed in six parts beginning in March 2020. CRS inspected the last leg between Ratnagiri and Thivim on March 24, 2022, and received authorization on March 28, 2022.

Due to the rugged topography of the Konkan Railway and the non-conducive atmosphere caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic, the electrification project has been tough. Furthermore, due to the heavy monsoon in the Konkan region, additional arrangements had to be made at a number of locations to ensure that the electrification mission could continue uninterrupted.

The multiple intrinsic benefits of electric traction should be noted, including significant fuel savings of more than $150 million, seamless operation of electric traction on the West Coast, pollution-free mode of transportation, and reduced reliance on HSD oil.

Because the Konkan Railway is one of the largest railway routes in India, train operations with electric propulsion will be phased in over time on the newly electrified KR route.

The Konkan Railway has always put safety first and will continue to work for the nation’s advancement.
