HIP bags Global CSR award in Maritime Industry
Global CSR award – At the Maritime Standard Awards 2022 at the Atlantis Hotel on the Palm, Dubai, Senior General Manager of Human Resources of HIPG Jeevan Premasara accepted the Corporate Social Responsibility award on behalf of HIPG.
The Hambantota International Port (HIP), the first port in Sri Lanka to receive an international award for CSR, took top place in the Corporate Social Responsibility category at the Maritime Standard Awards 2022 held in Dubai.
For the CSR award, HIP competed against five other finalists: Tristar Maritime Logistics, The Shipping Corporation of India, DP World UAE, Glander International Bunkering, and Abu Dhabi Ports Group. A number of carefully thought-out measures to maintain people and the environment are the foundation of the Port’s victory at the Maritime Standard Awards.
Global CSR award
According to Johnson Liu, CEO of HIPG, “CSR plays an important element in the strategic development of the port and is heavily supported by the China Merchant Foundation, the CSR division of our international partner CMPort. We think that the contribution we make to the long-term sustainability of the local communities and the environment is directly related to the success of our business. As a result of our efforts, we now enjoy international renown.
The port’s calendar still features numerous CSR activities in the district, including support for local schools. HIP also offered support to the neighbourhood during pandemics, supplying both medical supplies and basic necessities for families. The port’s centrepiece initiative to establish and grow communities is the Hope Village concept.
