Government expands digital eLearning project – Diksha

Government expands digital eLearning project – Diksha – In this lockdown over 61 crore registered views since March 24 for the government’s online learning portal, Diksha. Those with no access to the web are still excluded from quality learning.

So, the govt on Sunday announced an extension of its e-learning program to hide offline mediums. rather than the prevailing three channels, the govt is going to be rolling out one channel for every class catering to those not having internet connection.

As the govt getting to release 200 more books for e-pathshala portal with QR codes and added functionality to form learning interactive. However, this is often not the primary initiative to supply teaching via podcasts, TV, and other media. Earlier, initiatives like Gyan Bharti and therefore the Swayam portal haven’t been ready to generate much interest among students.

Manish Sabharwal, chairman, TeamLease Services, believes that the govt remains stuck to the primary generation of ed-tech. “The world has shifted to third-generation of ed-tech. the govt must create competition, they have to prevent trying to be a service provider, and rather act as a regulator and policymaker which inspires competition.

This may be a good start, but the govt must allow far more. Overseas universities have signed up quite 100,000 students over the last 60 days, so there’s an appetite for it. The subsequent step would be to permit all universities in India to supply online courses. If they will be a university, they will be online,” says Sabharwal.

While the principles are in situ since 2018, till now, the UGC has only licensed seven universities to supply online courses. the present relaxation will mean the top-100 won’t require licensing from the UGC, because the universities can automatically start their courses from May 30.
