Facebook parent Meta – On Wednesday, Meta Platforms Inc, the parent company of Facebook, and AMD, the chipmaker, announced a partnership for a mobile internet infrastructure programme that will lower base station prices and make broadband more accessible around the world.

The Evenstar programme, which was established by Meta in early 2020, supports a platform called OpenRan, which allows cellular network operators to mix and match hardware and software when creating base stations rather of buying everything from one manufacturer.

According to Gilles Garcia, an official at AMD’s data centre and communications department, this allows operators more choice and makes equipment price more competitive.

“Because Meta is also attempting to cover uncovered regions and underdeveloped countries, they have set an extremely aggressive cost objective. As a result, they want to ensure that more individuals are connected “Garcia stated.

The Evenstar radio devices will utilize AMD’s radio chip, the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale RFSoC.
