Duolingo App working on new music teaching app
Duolingo, a popular language learning app, is now working on teaching music, as the company’s LinkedIn page announced on Monday.
Duolingo is a US-based company based in Pittsburgh that currently has a small team and is expanding into the music industry. An “expert in music education who combines both theoretical knowledge of relevant learning science research and hands-on teaching experience,” according to the job posting on the company’s career and LinkedIn pages.
In addition, the post stated, “Duolingo is branching out into music education! Our strengths are in developing educational apps that are based on learning science and keep learners motivated — come join us in creating a new Duolingo music app that promotes learning while also being enjoyable to use!”
This, however, may not be part of the same app. Previously, the company launched a separate app when it expanded to teaching Mathematics in 2022 with Duolingo Maths; this, too, could be a separate app.

The math app is free and functions similarly to language learning in that both require methodical thinking and the ability to apply functions to obtain answers.
Meanwhile, according to its most recent quarterly update, Duolingo more than doubled its paid subscriber base last year. It now has approximately 500 million users. In addition, the company’s total revenue will nearly double to $369.5 million in 2022.
Luis von Ahn and Severin Hacker founded it in 2011 and it has since grown to become one of the world’s most popular language-learning apps.
Recently, the company has been expanding its base. The Duolingo English Test, for example, is an online certification exam that tests language proficiency that arose from a hackathon project in 2014. During the pandemic, the company also launched Duolingo ABC. It is a free English literacy app for children aged 3 to 6.
