Dell Technologies – Healthy oceans and technological solutions may not appear to be directly related at first look, but oceans are crucial to our survival. Oceans help manage our temperature, produce food, and provide the most oxygen in our atmosphere, accounting for 71% of the earth’s surface. Our global economy is heavily reliant on the seas. Everyone, regardless of industry or sector, requires seas for living.

Over the last decade, Dell Technologies has become more aware of the problem of plastics in our world’s seas and rivers. By 2050, the ocean is expected to have more plastic than fish (by weight), with an estimated 86 million metric tons of plastic in our waters.

Plastic bottles, food containers, and other abandoned items pollute the waters and degrade into microplastics, damaging undersea ecosystems. They are responsible for caring for the oceans as a global enterprise in order to nourish the only planet.

Dell’s work involves the discovery and incorporation of renewable, recyclable, and sustainable materials into packaging. Around eight years ago, they saw an opportunity in recycled ocean-bound plastics. Dell Technologies boldly pledged in 2017 to doing all possible to keep plastic waste out of the ocean and in the circular economy.

Since 2017, the NextWave alliance has prevented the equivalent of 2.27 billion water bottles from entering the ocean. Dell has used recovered ocean-bound plastics into its packaging and goods to fulfill the 2030 objective of 100% recycled or renewable packaging and 50% recycled or renewable products.

In FY23, we more than doubled our use of recycled ocean-bound plastics by incorporating them into goods such as EcoLoop carrying cases and Latitude, Precision, and OptiPlex product components. It diverted 39.2 million plastic bottles from the ocean and into the circular economy.

Dell Technologies, as one of the world’s technology giants, has been accelerating sustainability through energy-efficient data centers and servers, contributing to the circular economy. The corporation has also made hopeful claims about using recycled or renewable resources in its product offering.

Because plastics decompose in water, they must prevent the material from reaching the ocean. Creating and investing in an egalitarian and environmentally responsible supply chain is key to the NextWave collaboration’s success.

The informal supply network that collects ocean-bound plastics is one of the 20 million waste pickers who manage the vast majority of worldwide waste collection and recycling. They prioritized the creation of socially acceptable ocean-bound plastic supply chains that aid in the protection of those who work as informal waste collectors when they created the NextWave consortium.

Since they began this voyage in 2017, such ocean-bound plastics have been used in over 340 goods, including electronics, office furniture, carpet tiles, bike parts, and packaging, to name a few. As a result, they have already met half of this expectation. The best choice they have is to reduce their use of plastics, share their message, and learn how other organizations may contribute as well.

Furthermore, the Government of India’s position on green growth for economic growth, with a focus on sustainable development, is a watershed moment for Indian organizations to rethink their sustainability actions, investments, and objectives.

Due to rising customer, stakeholder, and government pressures, digital transformation and sustainability have become top priorities for enterprises across industries. 86% of CEOs see sustainability as a critical investment in defending their companies against challenges.

Organizations across sectors are driving their sustainable initiatives to positively impact the environment and society, from renewable energy to sustainable agriculture and waste management to sustainable product design. Dell Technologies was an early supporter of such ecological efforts.

One of the technological leader’s notable achievements is the EcoLoop range of laptop cases. This point is emphasized by a new television campaign demonstrating how these carrying cases are manufactured from ocean-bound plastics.
