Philanthropic Contribution of Rs 1000 crore made Towards Development of Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad

Development of Sabarmati Riverfront

Development of Sabarmati Riverfront – The Gujarat state government has joined forces with philanthropist and visionary PNC Menon, Founder-Sobha Group, to embark on the third phase of the Sabarmati Riverfront project, marking a significant step toward sustainable urban growth and community empowerment. In the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri. Bhupendrabhai Patel, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed, reaffirming their commitment to transforming the riverfront. Mr. Menon’s philanthropic commitment of Rs 1000 crore over the next five years to Sabarmati Riverfront development is consistent with his earlier commitment to donate 50% of his personal wealth to causes that help communities and foster overall development and progress in the country, demonstrating his ongoing and unwavering commitment to giving back to the community.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) established the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) in May 1997. The SRFDCL was tasked with transforming the Riverfront into a major urban asset for the city. A two-level, continuous promenade at the river’s edge along either side is a prominent component of this project. The 11.5 km long promenade serves pedestrians and cyclists and provides access to the water, as well as hosting a range of public attractions at the city level, such as scenic Parks & Gardens, Riverside Walkways, Atal Bridge, Biodiversity Park, state-of-the-art Sports Parks, Event Centre, and so on.

Development of Sabarmati Riverfront

In October 2020, Sabarmati Riverfront Corporation Ltd authorized concept planning and design for phase 2. Phase 2 of the Sabarmati Riverfront Project includes a 5.8 km extension to the current 11.5 km stretch of Riverfront East up to the Indira bridge, as well as a 5.2 km extension to the existing 11.5 km stretch of Riverfront West up to the Indira bridge.

SOBHA Realty Dubai and the Gujarat state government will collaborate on Phase 3 of the riverside development, representing a common ambition to create sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant urban areas that empower communities and encourage economic growth. The 4.5km section in Phase-3 would be developed artistically on both side of the riverside, transforming an extra stretch of the Sabarmati riverfront.
