Cochlear Implants – On behalf of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hospital (Dr. BAMH), Byculla, Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway, accepted Cochlear Implants donated to the hospital by Faiveley Transport Rail Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. (FTRTI Pvt. Ltd) at the Handing Over Ceremony held in the GM’s Meeting Hall “Mantrana” at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, 
 
Central Railway has invited firms with strong CSR initiatives, such as (FTRTI Pvt.Ltd), to support the donation of these Cochlear Implants with the needed specifications to needy deaf patients awaiting surgery at Railway Hospital, Byculla’s ENT Department.  
 
As a result, Central Railway’s Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer Ashok Kumar Gupta and Chief Workshop Manager Parel Vivek Acharya coordinated the donation of ten high-end cochlear implants by Advanced Bionics, a US-based company, as part of Faiveley Transport Rail Technologies India Pvt. Ltd.’s CSR initiative. Faiveley Transport is a significant supplier of railway systems around the world. 
 
Anil Kumar Lahoti expressed his delight in the fact that the hospital’s ENT Department is one of the best in Indian railroads, capable of performing essential Cochlear Implant Surgery. When youngsters receive implants at the appropriate age, they gain access to a whole new world of experiences and opportunities. In fact, it is the greatest present we can give to our country’s future generations. 
 
A Cochlear Implant is an electronic device that is used in the treatment of deafness in children and adults. Cochlear implants are classified as Class III devices, which means they are subjected to the most stringent regulatory examination. Since 2004, the hospital’s ENT Department has been a pioneer and a center of excellence in the field of Cochlear Implant Surgery, doing 20 to 25 Cochlear Implants per year.

On 11.06.2021, Railway Hospital, Byculla signed an MOU with Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech & Hearing Disabilities (AYJNISHD) under the revised “Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances” (ADIP) Scheme 2014 of the Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), New Delhi for a two-year period for Cochlear Implant
