Coal production reaches 92.87 million ton in December, a 10.75% growth

Coal output has surpassed the level of 83.86 MT in 2022, reaching 92.87 MT in December 2023. Coal India Limited’s output increased by 8.27% in December 2023, reaching 71.86 MT from 66.37 MT in December 2022. The cumulative coal production as of December 2023 has increased by 12.47% to 684.31 MT from 608.34 MT during the same period in FY22-23. 

Coal dispatch was also sufficient to accomplish 86.23 MT growth in the previous year’s month-end, demonstrating significant success over 79.58 MT in the previous fiscal year, an increase of 8.36%. 

Coal India Limited’s dispatch is currently at 66.10 MT as of December 2023, up from 62.66 MT in December 2022, marking a 5.49% increase.  

Coal production

According to official figures, the country experienced its highest-ever coal output in FY22-23, totaling 893.19 MT [Provisional] compared to 778.21 MT in the previous fiscal year, representing a 14.77% increase. 

In terms of output, dispatch, and stock levels, the coal sector’s productivity has reached new heights. The expansion is subject to the contribution led by Coal PSUs, which has played a significant role in pushing this success. Jharkhand produces the most coal in India, having a total reserve of approximately 83.15 billion tonnes.
