BEE and IIT Roorkee signs agreement

On October 6, 2022, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Indian Institute of Technology (R)-Roorkee signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for “R&D and demonstration on optimization of the performance of rotary kiln to maximize% metallization including use of natural gas/syngas as reductant.”

The MoA intends to facilitate energy efficiency in the iron and steel industry’s coal-based DRI units, with the following advantages:

• Optimal kiln energy use

• Fly ash and moist ash reduction

• Shortening the time spent in the kiln

• Lower consumption of coal
