Ayekart to Support and Empower Araku Tribal Farmers in Andhra Pradesh

Ayekart

Ayekart, a leading Food and Agri-FinTech and an integrated digital platform empowering Farmers/FPOs and MSMEs in the food and agri value chain, has partnered with CCL Products (India) Ltd., a well-known Instant Coffee Manufacturer, to improve the lives of indigenous tribal farmers in Andhra Pradesh’s picturesque Araku Valley. This collaboration, which builds on Ayekart’s previous projects in the region, aims to uplift the coffee farming community and improve their lives by providing necessary tools and resources.

The relationship between Ayekart and these tribal farmers began in 2021 with the formation of the FPO – Visakha Manayam Farmer Producer Company Limited. Farmers were subjected to extensive training programs focusing on contemporary production and processing procedures. These programs included the use of baby pulpers, proper drying processes on raised platforms, accurate moisture level assessment, and computerized product weighing.

The collaboration between Ayekart and Visakha Manayam Farmer Producer Company Limited has had a significant social impact on the lives of the Araku Valley’s indigenous tribes by providing these farmers with the knowledge and resources they need to secure fair prices and enhance their livelihoods. As a result of these efforts, nearly 1,000 farmers saw an increase in revenue and a better quality of life during the preceding coffee season.

“We are elated to have successfully conducted extensive GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) training, encouraged collective bargaining, and value-addition initiatives with the local tribal farmers through Visakha Manayam Farmer Producer Company Limited,” said Ashutosh Singh, COO and Co-Founder of Ayekart. We help farmers achieve larger yields while also enhancing their income and conserving their unique history by providing them with contemporary techniques and resources. Furthermore, our participation demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development and improving the livelihoods of people in need. We believe that by working together, we can make a significant and long-term difference in Araku, fostering a brighter future for the local populations.” Mr Singh continued, “We are excited to partner with CCL in this endeavor.”

The Araku Valley is well-known for its Arabica Parchment and cherry coffee cultivation, which is the primary source of income for the region’s indigenous communities. Despite the region’s rich and lush grounds, devotion to organic farming practices, and distinctive coffee quality, growers have long struggled to attain fair pricing and economic stability. Intermediaries and local traders frequently take advantage of their fragility, leaving them with little revenue to sustain their families.

“At CCL, we believe that businesses are responsible for uplifting communities,” said Praveen Jaipuriar, CEO of CCL Products (India) Ltd. Our partnership with Ayekart in Araku Valley represents our dedication to sustainable development, and we are happy to help empower these hardworking tribal farmers.”

The 2018 coffee season is scheduled to begin in November, with this year’s season starting slightly earlier than usual. Ayekart and CCL delivered tarpaulins and baby pulpers as part of their CSR activities and other ongoing initiatives to commemorate the occasion and help the farmers.
