AM-NS India Turns Sagasahi to A Model Solar Village

“Sagasahi,” the first solar village of Koida block, Sundargarh, was inaugurated on March 2, 2023 by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM-NS India) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

AM-NS India took on the solarization of the entire village in order to promote green and clean energy. The development of this 24-7 solar-powered village, which includes both households and public areas, took a comprehensive approach. In response, a variety of activities were carried out, including the installation of solar-powered home lighting systems in all 90 households, a solar-powered water system with a capacity of 10,000 litres and 12 water distribution points to cover all hamlets in the village, and the installation of 70 solar streetlights covering village roads and common village infrastructure. The newly built Lok Vikas Kendra, a community resource centre, was also inaugurated, which will be used for village meetings, functions, and solar-powered income generation activities by women. Suranjan Sahoo, Sub-Collector-Bonai Division inaugurated the solar village in the presence of Pallabi Raj, Block Development Officer, Koida, D S Joshi Tehsildar, Koida, Ashok Naik, Zilla Parishad Member, Koida, Rani Lohar, Sarpanch, Kasira, Dr. Vikas Yadvendu, Head CSR, AM-NS India, Satish Mohanty, Head Technical Services, Babu Lingamagunta, Mines Manager, AM-NS India, and other senior officials of the company.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by over 200 villagers from Sagasahi, Kalmong, and Ghoraburhani. Supay, a resident of Sagasahi village, praised AM-NS India’s efforts, saying, “The development activities of AM-NS India have enhanced our quality of life by fulfilling our basic needs and has remarkably improved the basic village amenities and other services.”

Suranjan Sahoo, Sub-Collector, Bonai Division, expressed gratitude to AM-NS India, saying, “AM-NS India’s intervention has aided the efforts of the Government of Odisha in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals for poverty alleviation and promotion of clean energy.”

“The solar interventions in Sagasahi are part of AM-NS India’s model village development plan. This is in addition to the existing development activities in the areas of health, education, livelihood and skill development, water and sanitation, sports, and culture for the advancement of communities in remote areas. “We will continue our CSR collaboration with the district administration and provide more development opportunities for children, women, youth, and farmers,” said Dr. Vikas Yadvendu, Head CSR-AM-NS India.
